  1. Hi

I’m wanting my daughter (who was born in Sendai, Japan) to study for her Japanese GCSE. She has just started High School and the school she is attending offered the Japanese for a number if years until THIS year! We were really looking pleased that she would be able to study for it at High School and are naturally really disappointed that this is no longer available. We are now going to do it as self study. I used to live in Japan and got Level 2 in the Japanese proficiency test (although this has since lapsed). My wife is also Japanese and will help her to study. My daughter has the motivation but the problem is that there is no actual specific text book for the qualification. A couple of hours searching on the net led me to your page and we are really excited to see a really well put together study resource. The problem is our printer isn’t great and we were wondering if we could send you a payment by cheque or Paypal to buy the study materials from you. We are happy to pay anything reasonable. Thank you in advance.

    • Dear Steven,
I have only just noticed your question and I would be happy to print and supply the materials to you at the cost to our school. Could you contact me through the Hockerill Anglo-European College website and give me your details?
      Thanks

  2. Hi Anne,
Massive thank you for these resources. I’ve been using these in my once a week Japanese language lesson at the local High School.

I appreciate the huge work that has gone into this. Still, would it be possible to correct the video link for the mnemonic for ネ?
And, if you could get some enthusiastic students to split up the videos, where you put the mnemonics for a full Hiragana or Katakana gyo in one (so, instead of 1 for マ-モ–> マ、ミ、ム、メ、モ separately) I would give it 11/10, it’s now at 10/10) Thanks again.

    • Hi Silke, I am glad you are finding the resources useful. I have checked the ‘ne’ link and it seemed to go through to the correct ‘ne’ katakana video tutorial. Am I looking in the wrong place?
      Best wishes
      Anne

Since I met you at Japan Foundation and saw your lecture, I have visited this website many times and introduced this to my students. I found your resources are excellent. I always look for what better ways for non-Japanese students to acquire Japanese language skills. I find supporting books or textbooks written by Japanese people sometimes miss the points and confuse students’ understanding. So I always use both books and resources written by non-Japanese and Japanese. In this respect, your ideas in teaching inspire me. I do appreciate this.

I found something in GCSE Workbook Unit 1 multimedia.
Because this is another way of saying ” どこのくにから きましたか。’’ Answer should be, for example,”イギリスです。’’
Answer should be イギリス人です。
なにじんですか is a bit strange question, though. I think this is why there is a sentence like ”ジョンさんは イギリス人ですか、アメリカ人ですか。’’

    • Dear Junko,
Thank you very much for your helpful advice. As a non-native speaker I am very grateful for any advice and feedback such as yours. I have changed the book accordingly.
